Alumna Erin Kate Whitcomb has been cast to play Dame Edna’s daughter Valmai in “Dame Edna: Live and Intimate in her First Last Tour.” Whitcomb has a singing/dancing solo in the show previewing Thurs., Nov. 20 and running the following Sunday through Jan. 4 at the Post Street Theatre, 450 Post St., San Francisco. $55-$100.

Join the executive producer of “The Ghost Whisperer,” alumnus James Van Praagh, for a “spirited conversation” Sat., Nov. 22., 8 p.m. at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. As this Sacramento Bee article reveals, Van Praagh, “a survival evidence medium,” was the inspiration for Haley Joel Osment’s character in “The Sixth Sense.”
Alumnus Ben Fong-Torres, in his latest Radio Waves column in The San Francisco Chronicle, mentioned that “Quincy Jones is coming to town Dec. 16 for the City Arts & Lecture series at the Herbst Theatre. I’m writing a book about Jones and will quiz him onstage about Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, ‘We Are the World,’ his role in the Opening Ceremonies for the Beijing Olympics and more.”
